In January 2012 Nari Chetana Kendra (WACN) and World Education signed an agreement to reduce the exploitation of child labor in Nepal. Children from Kavre, Ramechap, and Sarlahi Districts come to Lalitpur, Kathmandu, and Baktapur for seasonal brick-making. Their education is, consequently, disrupted for six months out of the year. Nari Chetana Kendra is launching a “Building a Better Future” campaign in alliance with World Education to prevent this destructive process from taking place. It is implementing education and employment programs in the project areas to provide alternative sources of livelihood to disadvantaged people. Instead of migrating to the city and working under horrible conditions for half of the year, they can initiate their own income-generating schemes in their respective villages.
