WWSF Award Ceremony

Nari Chetana Kendra held a special program on March 8th in honor of the 102nd celebration of International Women’s Day. Participants shared the accomplishments and challenges of Nepalese women through song, poem, speech, and dance.

The aim of the program was to encourage women in their pursuit for women’s right to justice and equality. A ceremony also took place for Prativa Subedi, who received an international award from Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) in 2011 for her innovative work in bringing about positive economic and social changes in the lives of rural women; disadvantaged grassroots women are now becoming self-reliant and respected members of their community because of her work.

WWSF awarded the prize to ten grassroots leaders from around the world who have made great advancements in poverty alleviation, education, and human rights, particularly for women and children. Ms. Durga Ghimire, renowned senior activist of Nepal, handed the prize over to Prativa Subedi in the company of more than one hundred social activists, grassroots leaders, NGOs representatives, and newspaper reporters. Distinguished guests were also present.

Nari Chetana Kendra also took the opportunity to recognize the work of key community leaders, including Government Radio Nepal Host Chanda Bista for her ground-breaking women’s programs that bring rural women’s voices to the fore. The event received wide media coverage.
