Livelihood and Poverty Alleviation
Rural areas in Nepal are undergoing rapid socio-economic and environmental changes which present both opportunities and challenges for rural livelihoods and pathways out of poverty. The chronic poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to technology, lack of capital formation, flood and drought, poor agriculture marketing facilities, lack of knowledge about commercial activities are the main challenges for rural livelihoods development.
Key interventions:
Organising livelihood workshop to identify alternative income generation activities;
Organising vocational skills (carpentry, sewing, weaving, gardening, repair and maintenance of electrical equipment’s, metal crafts etc.) and self-employment educational program (SEEP) support for youth group;
Capacity building and training for small business/enterprise development and promotion;
Capacity building for goat rearing and insurance schemes;
Capacity building for candy making, preservation of fruits and vegetables, dhaka products making (clothes), candle making, incense stick making, beads ornaments making etc.;
Improving supply chain linkages to market for improved earnings;
Establishing saving and credit groups and cooperatives for poverty alleviation and women empowerment;
Carrying out research to identify livelihood promotion and poverty alleviation.
