Lack of access to basic maternal and child healthcare, lack of awareness about health and sanitation, difficult geographical terrain ( because of which people need to travel long distance to receive health services), poorly access to transportation, poverty, illiteracy, women’s low status in the society ( lower status of female health than male), shortage of health care professional, lack of medicine and equipment’s in government run health centers, lack of access to clean drinking water, and underutilization of currently available services are major health issues in context of Nepal. Along with that social and traditional customs, as well as women’s heavy workload along with intra-household inequalities in access to income, food, education, healthcare and decision-making contribute to women’s poor health conditions. The communicable disease outbreaks are also continuously threatening community health in Nepal.

Key interventions:

  • Train community people for water and sanitation;
  • Develop local resource person on community health.
  • Install water and sanitation infrastructure at WACN cooperative centers;
  • Awareness training for COVID-19 and future pandemics;
  • Capacity building for women health and reproductive system in the three groups viz 8-13, 14-18 and 18 and above;
  • Develop local resource person on health and wellness and support with equipment;
  • Counselling and trauma healing;
  • Organise health camps for reproduction, eye, teeth, etc.;
  • Publish and distribute health calendars and information materials.
  • Provide immediate health care services in natural calamities and communicable diseases outbreak
  • Awareness training against irrational belief in supernatural influences on health
