Nari Chetana Kendra Nepal successfully organized a workshop titled ‘’Empowering women against Gender violence in Nepal : current status and way forward ” on November 29, 2024, at the Yellow Pagoda Hotel in Kathmandu. The event brought together 118 participants, including policymakers, social activists, media professionals, and women leaders from kavre and Kathmandu , creating a platform to address the critical issue of gender-based violence and promote women’s empowerment.
The workshop was graced by the presence of Honorable Miss Sapana Rajbhandari, Federal Parliament Member, as the chief guest. She was joined by prominent figures such as Kalyani Shah, President of the Women Safety Pressure Group, Krishna Kumari Waiba, President of the Beyond Beijing Committee, and Shanti Laxmi Shrestha, a GESI expert and member of the National Civil Rights Association Nepal and Srijana Poudel, President of Nari Chetana Kendra. These distinguished experts contributed their knowledge and personal experiences, fostering a rich and meaningful dialogue. Anita Neupane Thapaliya, Executive Director of the Legal Aid and Consultation Center (LAAC), delivered a presentation on Empowering Women Against Gender Violence in Nepal: Current Status and Way Forward.
Participants identified several key challenges hindering progress, including gaps in policy implementation, societal stigmas, and limited access to education and economic opportunities for women. Through open and engaging discussions, actionable strategies were proposed to combat these barriers. Suggestions included strengthening advocacy efforts to raise awareness, improving enforcement of existing laws, and prioritizing initiatives that enhance women’s access to education and economic independence.
The workshop concluded with a collective resolution to work collaboratively toward these goals. It highlighted the importance of unified efforts in creating a society free from violence and discrimination against women. The event also reaffirmed Nari Chetana Kendra Nepal’s unwavering commitment to empowering women, not only by advocating for their safety but also by fostering an environment where they can thrive as active, valued members of their communities.This impactful gathering demonstrated that meaningful change is possible when stakeholders join hands to create a safer and more equitable future for all Nepalese women.
