Empowering Women, Building Stronger Communities

WACN started its journey in the year 1991 with a larger vision of sustainable and holistic development of the poor and the marginalized. It has been over 30 years of WACN work promoting gender equality; helping women, men and non- conforming people to realise their rights and have equal access to resources and opportunities. WACN works to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence in society through a combination of advocacy, training and interventions.

WACN carries out action, research and advocacy programs to create knowledge and build consensus among stakeholders for promoting socio-economic development. We believe that gender inequality, poverty, and lack of access to educational resources are deeply intertwined. We provide educational materials and training for women and children to promote knowledge advancement and personal growth. We are working to improve the livelihood opportunities for the poor and marginalised by imparting skill training and promoting local saving-credit cooperatives. By involving women in cooperative activities, we have been able to improve their economic opportunities, social status and prosperity. Over the years, WACN has developed a network of 36 women-led cooperatives having more than 35,000 women members and 6,000 child members.

WACN continues to address major environmental challenges linked to climate change, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, energy and water. We are actively engaged in climate change adaptation efforts, building the resilience of communities to mitigate the impacts of climate change, conserve biodiversity, and shaping a sustainable future. We provide training in best practices for sustainable agriculture and distribute farming resources to improve farm productivity and achieve food security. WACN is actively working to improve clean cooking access in the country, especially electric cooking, which is a more suitable solution due to the surplus availability of domestically produced renewable electricity. Our work involves raising awareness about health and sanitation, bridging the gap in healthcare services, and empowering women to take charge of their well-being. Our work is contributing to healthier and thriving communities.

It is the support and enthusiasm of community people, our donors and the hard work of staff that allows us to constantly push boundaries and seek new frontiers. We are thankful to all, particularly board members, staff, and volunteers for their unflinching support and commitment. We are fortunate to have many supporters and thankful for funding from our working partners who are listed on our website. Together, we will continue to empower the vulnerable and marginalised. I am confident that, with your ongoing support, we will achieve our vision of a brighter and more equal future.
Thank you for standing with us on this transformative journey.

Sincerely,
Ms. Srijana Poudel
