Today, on December 6, 2023, the Nari Chetana Kendra Nepal (WACN) organized an inception workshop at Hotel Sabrina, Buddhanilkantha with the goal of promoting the widespread adoption of Efficient Cookstoves (EPCs) in Nepal. The workshop, held under the Modern Energy Cooking Service, sought to establish a sustainable supply-chain and increase demand for energy efficient cooking practices in two districts; Kathmandu (Budhhanilkantha) and Kavrepalanchowk through Savings and Credit Co-operative Organisations (SACCOS). The program was conducted under the Presidency of Mrs Srijana Poudel, President of Naari Chetana Kendra Nepal. She presented an overview of the program’s objective, current scenario and plans to the attendees. Mithharam Adhikari, Chairperson of the Budhanilkantha Municipality was the chief guest of the program and Anita Lama, the vice chairperson, was special guest of the programme. Achhyut Khadka, Chair-person of Co-operatives and Sailendra Pyakurel engineer of Nepal of Electricity were present. Other participants include ward chairpersons and members from four wards of Budhhanilkantha Municipality, alongside journalists, reporters and representatives from Ram Mandir Nari Chetana Skills Savings and Credit cooperatives.
During the program, the chair person admired and expressed concerned about the current political instability and advised that public should be aware about the importance of clean energy and environment. He suggested that consumer should be consulted properly about their likeness and more research work should be conducted in the areas.
On the other hand, the vice chairperson praised the program and their plan which is clean energy, one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the country Clean. She encouraged leading organization like Nari Chetana Kendra Nepal to actively be involved in pressurizing government to implement, research and monitor the development goals. The development goals which are existed but not implemented properly in the nation.
The speakers voiced their support for the initiative, and expressed an interest in collaborating to promote the use of electric appliances in the community. However, they were concerned that 250 electric pressure cookers is substantially lower for cooperatives with more than two thousand members. “Conflict between members” was their major concern. Since Nepal is struggling with the issue of selling electricity in the neighboring country, the representative of the Electricity Authority (NEA) and other participants expressed gratitude to the organizer for putting such a program that promotes wise use of electricity and sustainable plans from socio-economic and environment al perspectives. The program plans to distribute 1800 electric pressure to it Saving and Credit Co-operatives in two district Kathmandu and Kavrepalanchowk with subsidy.
