Thematic Areas

Clean Energy Access

Access to clean cooking has been a persistent problem in many under-developed countries including Nepal. Nepal has no known major oil, gas, or coal reserves, and its geographical position makes it hard to reach remote communities. Most of the families use biomass, imported LPG, imported kerosene and electricity to meet their energy needs. People are less aware about inefficient burning of solid biomass for cooking releases household air pollution that is hazardous to health and overall socio-economic development, while putting pressure on forest resources.

Key interventions:

  • Capacity building for transition to clean energy;

  • Promote energy efficiency in households and community centres;

  • Promote adoption of e-cooking using induction and electric pressure cooker;

  • Carry out research and implementation project for improving access to clean cooking and e-mobility.

  • Support programs to members by providing energy loan on low interest rate on monthly instalment basis.

  • Awareness campaign in WACN promoted cooperative for replacing EPC/induction with cash benefits on annual meetings

  • Awareness training on financial and health benefits of environment friendly electronic equipment.
